Ah, ‘summer'. It hasn't exactly made a prompt arrival yet, has it?
What has arrived - for most of you by now - is the summer holidays. A chance to recharge, relax and recuperate ahead of the forthcoming term. I know when I'm on holiday I want a break from all things work-related, and you may feel the same, but this might just snare your attention.
In the remaining months of 2024 and into 2025, we'd like to put BDJ Student in the hands of you, the students. Yes, that's right, we want you to take over an issue of BDJ Student. Ever thought of yourself as an editor, a writer or simply brimming with ideas and opinions to the point you're going to self-combust?
Well, this is your chance. An issue of BDJ Student will officially be taken over by a dental school or society. You will need to assemble a team; choose an editor, choose your contributors within the school or society, choose your ideas. They're yours to choose - I and the BDJ Student team will be on hand to help if you so wish, but the content is yours. You may even have the opportunity to come up with a cover feature illustration and work with our production team on the idea!
So, what do you need to do next? Firstly, get your squad together. Ideally they will be from within the same dental school or your dental society, but I will consider collaborations across schools and societies. Once you've done that, you will need to come up with 10 articles you want to write, commission or interview. Then, send them through to . There is no immediate closing date, so you have time to assemble the best Avengers possible. Feeling angry at the state of NHS dentistry and want to Hulk smash? Be my guest.
Consider this the starting gun on the next phase of BDJ Student. After all, we are by dental students for dental students. Good luck!
