My first placement in an NHS general dental practice consisted of periodontology, prosthodontics, restorative dentistry and endodontology. I saw patients of all ages, ranging from the very young with a few deciduous teeth to the more mature individuals with full dentitions. I enjoyed being able to provide general dental care to patients during a very challenging time when NHS dentistry is scarce, also to provide dental care to those individuals with more complex dental needs. Unfortunately, the care provision came with the added time pressures and the high expectations of patients. I soon realised that working in a general dental setting every day was not for me at this present time. I was therefore keen to move on after eight months to my next placement to see what dentistry was like outside of the general practice setting and also to see what other new skills I could learn.
At my current placement in the community I am based at different locations and do domiciliary visits in and around Swindon. These locations include the Swindon Health Centre, the West Swindon Health Centre, the Great Western Hospital and the Chippenham Community Hospital.
