Miscarriage | The involuntary, spontaneous loss of a pregnancy before 24 completed weeks' gestation |
Intrauterine death | A pregnancy lost between 24 weeks and the onset of labour |
Stillbirth | The loss of a baby which is not diagnosed until the point of labour |
Embryo | A fertilised human oocyte by a human sperm which has not yet reached the eighth week of development |
Fetus | Develops from an embryo after the ninth week of development |
Fetal viability | Ability of the fetus to survive outside the uterus |
