Most PTPs belong to the Cys-based class I PTPs, which are further classified into receptor-like PTPs (RPTPs), nonreceptor PTPs (NRPTPs), and DUSP groups. Only one PTP (LMW-PTP) belongs to Class II; one PTP belongs to Asp-based PTPs. The diagrams were adapted from ref. 15
