PTPs regulate skeletogenesis by influencing the proliferation and fate determination of skeletal stem cells, the differentiation and maturation of chondroid, adipose, and osteoblastic cell lineages, and the function of osteoblasts and chondrocytes. Developmental trajectories of OBs, chondrocytes, and adipocytes are connected by arrows; regulatory PTPs are involved, and their biological function in these processes is indicated. Green, black, and blue represent PTPs that play a positive, negative, and conflicting or unclear regulatory role, respectively
