Transcription of miR-214 gene is induced by the binding of Twist1 with the E-box element in the promoter region of the miR-214 gene. Thus, increasing the expression of mature miR-214 which targets the 3′-UTR of Sufu to suppress its translation. Reduced expression of Sufu can no longer effectively inhibit Gli transcription factors, thereby accelerating the expression of Hedgehog signaling effectors and profibrotic genes in HSCs.
