At an age of 50–54 days, female Sprague-Dawley rats were dosed intragastrically with 20 mg DMBA. when at least one tumor measuring 1 cm in diameter was found, the rats were ovariectomized and given intramuscular 1 μg/rat E2 daily. Animals were selected for experiments when at least one tumor per rat had reached a diameter of 1.5 cm. The skin covering the tumor was shaved and animals were divided into four groups. The tumors were treated by direct application of DHT, 4-OHT, and 17-HEXE.
