Grail expression is increased in hepatocytes with high-fat diet feeding. Grail interacts with sirtuin 1 (Sirt1) and subsequently degrades it by ubiquitination. This results in increased fatty acid uptake and synthesis and decreased beta-oxidation of fatty acid, thereby, synergistically aggravating fatty acid accumulation and hepatic steatosis.
