In cervical cancer cells, RAB33A induces the formation of non-canonical autophagosomes and inhibits the fusion of autophagosomes and lysosomes by inactivating RAB7. This enables the accumulation of RhoC, which is degraded through the autophagy-lysosome pathway within the cell. The excess RhoC is transported to the cell membrane, altering cell morphology and promoting metastasis.
