Mcl1 blocks the activation of Bax and thereby prevents mitochondrial outer membrane permeabilization, cytochrome C release, and cleaved caspase 3 activation. Possibly regulation of Mcl1 by post-translational modifications can be exploited to therapeutically intervene with cell death occurring in dopaminergic neurons
