Coordinated changes in DNA methylation and gene expression are significantly related with metabolic processes. a Gene ontology (GO) enrichment for genes located within isoDMBs that show coherent changes in TBT-dependent DNA methylation and gene expression in F4 male gWAT. Significant enrichment for GO terms were identified using MouseMine, the background population of annotations for mouse genome as the reference set, and Benjamini Hochberg correction for multiple testing to calculate p values according to the hypergeometric distribution (threshold of significance p = 0.05)55. Right panel represents the p values with most significant enrichments represented on the top of the graph. Left panel shows the number of genes from our dataset that supports significant enrichment for each GO term. GO terms involved in metabolic processes are highlighted with boxes. b Schematic representation of the cellular functions of a subset of genes located within isoDMBs showing coherent changes in TBT-dependent DNA methylation and gene expression in F4 male gWAT. Overexpressed and underexpressed genes are represented in red and blue, respectively. The complete list of genes is reported in Supplementary Data 10. ACoA, Acetyl-CoA; CAC, Citric acid cycle; DHAP, dihydroxyacetone phosphate; F1,6P, fructose 1,6 phosphate; F6P, fructose 6 phosphate; FA, fatty acid; G3P, glyceraldehyde 3 phosphate; G6P, glucose 6 phosphate; TG, triglycerides
