Upregulated Gal-3 levels in humans during C. neoformans infection. Gal-3 levels in serum from healthy individuals (blue bar) and patients infected by C. neoformans (red bars) were assessed by ELISA. Gal-3 levels were higher in IC (immunocompetent) and HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) patients infected with C. neoformans when compared with healthy individuals.
