BRUCE regulates autophagy flux by promoting autophagosome-lysosome fusion. Schematic illustrating the functional role of BRUCE during autophagy induction in wild type cells (left panel) and in BRUCE deficient cells (right panel). BRUCE interacts with GABARAP, GABARAPL1, and STX17, and localizes at the lysosomal as well as autolysosomal membranes (left panel). BRUCE-deficient cells have reduced numbers of autolysosomes and display an accumulation of LC3B, GABARAP, and GABARAPL1 due to inefficient autophagosome-lysosome fusion (right panel).
