Wild-type and hexose knockout (HXT1-7, GAL2) d-galUA utilization strains expressing no transporter (yRJP193, yRJP195) or GatA (yRJP194, yRJP196) were incubated in pH 3.5 media containing 20 g/L d-galUA (OD600 = 10).
