F. prausnitzii protects against arsenic toxicity. Germ-free, E. coli mono-colonized (one cage of four mice), and E. coli + F. prausnitzii bi-colonized (three replicate cages of 3 or 5 mice each) As3mt-KO mice were exposed to 25 ppm iAsV. Survival was not significantly different between GF and E. coli mono-colonized groups (p = 0.1759, Mantel–Cox test), whereas mice bi-colonized with E. coli + F. prausnitzii survived significantly longer than both GF (p = 0.0035, Mantel–Cox test) and E. coli mono-colonized mice (0.0024, Mantel–Cox test)
