Scheme of the experiment. An acousto-optic programmable dispersive filter (AOPDF) creates a phase-coherent pulse sequence with individual pulse phases φi (i = 1, 2, 3, 4) that is employed in the multidimensional experiment. Besides scanning the interpulse delays τ, T, and t, we further sample the phases of the second, third, and fourth pulse five times each and finally detect the integrated fluorescence intensity from the sample as a function of these excitation pulse sequence parameters
