The intensity of the most symmetric theoretical (a) and experimental (b) pulse is depicted in logarithmic scale together with Gaussian and hyperbolic-secant fits. It is evident that pulse tails deviate substantially from the Gaussian shape predicted by Haus theory, exhibiting a smoother decay. The pulses shown here correspond respectively to those in Fig. 4c, f.
