Ergosterol levels of the wild-type (WT), the nctA null mutant (∆nctA), the nctB null mutant (∆nctB) and the nctA reconstituted isolate (nctA rec) in RPMI-1640 incubated for 24 h were determined by GC–MS. Ergosterol content of each mutant was normalised to that of the wild-type, and shown as a relative fold change. Samples were assessed in biological triplicates.
