Top image shows the surface DEM. A–E are the trend surface analysis of the subsurface structure of the CE-4 surveying area, corresponding to Fig. 1. The color bars indicate the elevation variation within each layer and the arrows show the rising direction of the layer. The coordinate system is based on the lander location marked by the red triangle. The black dots represent the rover’s path during the initial nine months. Surface DEM data were derived from Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) Narrow Angle Camera (NAC) stereo pair image28. The positive direction of Y axis points to the north and the positive direction of X axis points to the East.
