a Synthesis of 2D-Mo2COx/SiO2 from delaminated Mo2CTx films via incipient wetness impregnation of their colloidal solution onto silica, followed by the reduction of the Tx groups under H2 (giving 2D-Mo2C/SiO2) and the subsequent oxidation in CO2 (giving 2D-Mo2COx/SiO2); b TEM images of 2D-Mo2CTx/SiO2; c in situ reduction of 2D-Mo2CTx/SiO2 under H2 as followed by Mo K-edge XANES revealing an evolution of the pre-edge feature with temperature (shown in the inset as a contour plot); d oxidation state of Mo in reference and synthesized materials determined from the deconvolution of ex situ XPS data of the Mo 3d core levels as well as from e the edge position in XANES spectra.
