Dissolved organic carbon (DOC, a), phosphorous (DOP, b), and nitrogen (DON, c) released into seawater per gram of polyvinylchloride (PVC) or polyethylene (PE) over time during the course of the experiment under biotic conditions at atmospheric pressure 0.1 MPa. Controls consist of seawater incubated with no polymer pellets for 30 days under biotic conditions. The diameter of the PVC and PE pellets is in the 3–5 mm range. Error bars show standard deviation (n = 3).
