The starting point is defined in the (X,Y) plane by the distance of the proton track extrapolation to the ion stopping point (that is non-zero due to tracks precision), and in the vertical dimension by the corresponding time. The uncertainty on the ion position (grey ellipse) converts into an uncertainty on the proton track length.
