a Overview time-of-flight mass spectrum acquired after 2 min of reaction of DBB with propene ions. The spectrum shows a strong signal of Ca+ at 40 u and several product peaks. No signal could be detected at the expected mass of the cycloadduct at 252 and 256 u due to fragmentation. b Magnified view of the mass range showing the product signals (top trace) and comparison with control measurements in which either propene ions or DBB were absent from the experiment (lower inverted traces). The spectrum consists of several bands A–F corresponding to different fragments of the cycloadduct, see text for details.
