A very small volume of NaOH solution was dropped beside a drop of the polymer mixture (in yellow), and the resulting solvent front (cyan) was recorded using a polarized objective with 10X magnification. Frames at 2 s intervals were captured using the Phantom PCC imaging software, and presented in order from panel (a–h). The scale bar in panel (a) corresponds to a length of 125 μm, and is consistent throughout the frames. Images have been enhanced and recoloured for the sake of clarity.
