Rapid elevation of IDO1 catalyzes the conversion of tryptophan to Kyn in neonatal and adult heart regeneration models. The accumulated Kyn binds to AhR and triggers the cardiac cytoplasm SRC-YAP/ERK pathway to activate CM proliferation. On the other hand, the accumulated Kyn transports to endothelial cells and binds to AHR, which resulting in translocation to the nucleus, transcriptional upregulation of VEGFA, and promotion the cardiac angiogenesis.
