Dates used to calibrate the molecular clock are indicated next to the nodes; see “Methods” for details of the calibration dates. The tree is rooted on the Textulariida. The RAxML and Bayesian topologies with the branch lengths are provided as Supplementary Fig. 2 and all relevant data files are provided in Supplementary Data 4.
