Dilution rate was variable in the glucose/acetate exponential phase experiments, to keep the populations in exponential phase (see methods section ā€œBarSeq experimentsā€), but unless otherwise noted, the daily dilution rate was 1:100, consistent with the LTEE condition. All experiments were performed in the LTEE media, DM25, except for the acetate exponential phase experiment. The abbreviations R, S, and L refer to REL606, and 6.5k S/L, respectively. In coculture experiments, 怈fS怉 is the total frequency of S, averaged overall timepoints and replicates.
