a Example of a sensitive relationship between a parameter x and a quantity f(x). The slope on a log-log plot is a measure of sensitivity closely linked to the Hill coefficient. Our main result (inset equation) is that under general conditions this derivative is bounded by the size of the support of the perturbation of x. In each example (b, c, or d), the graph G of a kinetic scheme, to which our result applies, is shown. The transitions whose rates depend on x are indicated in red. The support (green) consists of those states from which the red transitions leave.
