a BGCs are identified through their modification enzymes. For example, dehydration enzymes are frequently found in some classes of RiPPs. b Short ORFs within 10,000 bp of these enzymes are detected as candidate structural ORFs. c Fragments of the structural ORFs with lengths between 5 to 30 amino acids are extracted as candidate precursor peptides. d Depending on the tailoring enzymes in the BGC, corresponding modifications are (optionally) applied to the precursor peptides to form hypothetical molecules. e seq2ripp prediction is informed by biosynthetic knowledge of thiopeptide.
