Optimal growth temperature (estimated theoretically on the entire proteome) (P = 3.23e−5), genome size (P = 5.15e−4), GC-content (P = 0.02) and CAZyme (P = 0.04) and peptidase (P = 0.03) numbers were compared for the two lineages, with adjustment for genome completeness when required. Dots indicate data points (n = 19 genomes), centre lines show the medians, box limits indicate the 25th and 75th percentiles and whiskers extend 1.5 times the interquartile range from the 25th and 75th percentiles. Significant differences between the two groups were estimated with two-tailed unequal variance (Welch’s) t-tests, with the significance level indicated below each graph.
