a Differences in socio-economic characteristics, industry structure, energy structure and resource endowments among 30 Chinese provinces. All the data is for year 2020. b Carbon peak maturity index scores for 30 Chinese provinces. Provinces are divided into three groups according to its maturity index score: high maturity, middle maturity, and low maturity. The carbon peak year for high-maturity provinces is thought to be earlier than that of mid-maturity provinces; and carbon peak year for middle-maturity provinces is thought to be earlier than that of low-maturity provinces. Note that due to the lack of data for Tibet, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, this study only considers 30 Chinese provinces excluding these provinces.
