Heterotypic PLD interactions occur at sub-saturation concentrations which upon increasing protein concentration can lead to co-phase separation of the mixture into spatially homogeneous multi-component condensates (top panel). Our results collectively suggest that transcriptional proteins can be assembled into co-phase-separated hubs through sequence-specific positively cooperative interactions among low-complexity domains (bottom panel).
