Shown are soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP) (A) and nitrate-N (NO3-N) (B) concentrations of each 5-year simple moving average (SMA) versus the molar TN:TP ratio of the same lake and 5-year SMA. Data are based on the same time series as the other data, but SRP and nitrate-N data were not available for every TN and TP observation. Therefore, panel A includes 278 observations from 37 shallow lakes, and panel B includes 620 observations from 138 shallow lakes. The axes have been log-transformed since TN:TP ratios followed a log-normal distribution, and to make small SRP and nitrate-N concentrations visible.
