A cubic smooth function (s) with k = 4 knots was applied to plot the relationship between age and brain features correcting for sex and scanner site (F): \(\hat{age}=s(F)+sex+site\) using restricted maximum likelihood (REML). The grey shaded area indicates the 95% CI. All age-relationships were significant (padj < 3.4 × 10−64).
