Pathway 1 occurs over the under-coordinated Pt sites with slow kinetics that are coverage and temperature independent. Pathway 2 occurs over well-coordinated sites with fast kinetics that are coverage and temperature dependent. Pathway 3 which represents the irreversible adsorption/dissociation of O2 occurs on the well-coordinated sites.
