Fig. 8: Schematics of HTNV-L species in equilibrium in the absence and presence of 5′vRNA.

HTNV-L apo is in equilibrium between symmetric dimers, hexamers, and monomers, as shown by the cartoon representation of HTNV-L colored by protomers. Arrows indicate the equilibrium between the different oligomers. Motif E is shown in red and is surrounded by a dotted line. In each protomer of HTNV-L apo, motif E is in an α-helical conformation as shown by a zoom where motif E is colored in red. Incubation with 5′vRNA disrupts the symmetric oligomers and results in an equilibrium between monomers and another type of 5′vRNA-related dimer. Two different conformations of 5′vRNA-bound monomeric HTNV-L co-exist that are displayed as a white cartoon with the 5′vRNA displayed in light pink. The conformation of motif E in both conformations is shown in red and is surrounded by a dotted line. A zoom on motif E shows its conformation in each map. The 3D structure of the 5′vRNA-related dimer remains to be characterized. 2D class averages of the 5′vRNA-related dimer are displayed.
