Fig. 3: The variations of Aerosol Direct Radiative Effect (ADRE) with Surface albedo (SA) in the clear-sky condition.
From: Surface albedo regulates aerosol direct climate effect

a–d illustrate the variation of ADRE with SA under different Aerosol Optical Depths (AOD) and Single Scattering Albedo (SSA) conditions. AOD and SSA are divided into four intervals with an equal sample number. Sub-figures numbered 1–4 correspond to different SSA intervals: (0, 0.89], (0.89, 0.93], (0.93, 0.97], (0.97, 1], while Sub-figures labeled (a–d) correspond to different AOD intervals: (0, 0.07], (0.07, 0.13], (0.13, 0.26], (0.26, 1.5]. Due to the few extremely high values of AOD (AOD > 5), the final AOD interval is chosen as (0.26, 1.5]. The color represents the probability of sample occurrence, black lines indicate the ADRE equal to zero, and red lines represent linear fittings of ADRE with SA. All red lines in the Sub-figures are with P < 0.01.
