a Following Hinz & de Polavieja43, for each day ti, we computed three values for ps(ti) by fitting Eq. (1) (right) to the experimental probabilities P(2 | 2:1), P(0 | 0:3), and P(0 | 0:1) of that day and computing its mean value. b For biological fish (red lines) and artificial fish, the mean value of the attraction parameter (Ps from Eq. (1)) increases during development. Most of the change in behavior can be explained simply by an increase in the amount of time spent in interaction across development. Data are presented as mean values. Error bars indicate ±1 SEM.
