From: The need for adaptability in detection, characterization, and attribution of biosecurity threats

Defining the “boom” or event that compromises safety as the release of a dangerous biological agent, there are “left of boom” and “right of boom” security measures. Highlighted in orange, screening of engineered sequences is a developed and focused area in biosecurity. In blue, more proactive measures to limit actors in the design phase, as well as more efficient ways to respond to an already-released agent are areas that should be further developed.
