The bars indicate the percentage of membrane transporter proteins in the proteomes of selected parasitic and non-parasitic eukaryotes; the predicted number of transporters is written above each bar. TritrypDB36 was used as reference for the number of predicted L. mexicana proteins and the number of L. mexicana transporters was determined in the present study. For all other species, the number of entries in the UniProtKB (Swiss-Prot and TrEMBL88) was used as a measure total protein number, and the number of transporters was taken from TransportDB 2.031.
