Each panel shows the overall distribution (box plot) of all sites and the distribution of site types (histograms) over Annual Mean Temperature (a), Annual Precipitation (b), Distance to lakes (c), Distance to rivers (d), Altitude (e) and Slope (f) per Phase. The histograms display 30 equally wide bins showing the percentage distribution of site types over the variables. The boxplots show medians, first and third quartiles (hinges), and minimum and maximum values no further than 1.5*IQR from the hinge where IQR is the inter-quartile range (whiskers).
