Isolated yields of the major isomers are shown. E/Z ratio in parentheses was determined by analysis of the crude 19F NMR spectroscopy using PhCF3 as an internal standard. Reaction conditions: 5 (0.5 mmol, 1.0 equiv), BrCF2CN (1.25 mmol, 2.5 equiv), CuBr2 (8.4 mg, 7.5 mol%), [Ir(dF(CF3)ppy)2(dtbbpy)][PF6] (5.6 mg, 1 mol%), DMF (2.5 mL), N2, rt, 36 h, blue LEDs.
