Both the Young’s modulus (purple points) and the strength (orange points) increase significantly with the decrease in thickness, during which the gold nanoflakes transform from FCC phase into HCP phase. The gradient color bar (from blue to red) indicates the HCP-to-FCC phase transformation range. Error bars represent standard deviations obtained from 5–18 independent measurements for each sample.
