The relative abundances of ASVs and genes were subject to Fourier transformation, and oscillation signals were determined based on the amplitude of peak/trough dynamics within each annual cycle. An oscillation of 1 indicates a single peak/trough per year, reflecting a unimodal annual fluctuation in abundance. Boxplots illustrate the median, 25 and 75% percentile of the number and relative abundance of ASVs and gene clusters exhibiting each oscillation signal. The number of ASVs and gene clusters observed for each oscillation signal are included next to each boxplot.
