The colored polygons represent the subset of mountains extracted from72,73 for which our dataset contains records of at least one alien vertebrate species. Highlighted are ten examples of mountains with observed species richness above the 99th percentile of the distribution of values (i.e. >33 species). The legend shows the mountain name, the mountain system to which each mountain belongs, and the respective number of alien vertebrate species recorded. These mountains remain at the top of the distribution also in the sampling bias-corrected pattern (See Supplementary Fig. 5). Lists of the top ten mountains with the highest number of alien vertebrates overall and per taxonomic group are provided in Supplementary Table 2.
