  1. Columns (1) and (3) report the estimates with simple fixed-effect regression without any controls, and columns (2) and (4) report the estimates by adding a set of social-level controls. In the results that were not reported, the negative impacts on macro residential income are consistent with the findings on self-reported absolute income at the individual level. We assessed whether the impacts on rural and urban incomes differ significantly by performing a chi-squared test. The resulting p value of 0.2004 exceeds the significance threshold of 0.05, leading us to fail to reject the null hypothesis, which indicates that the effects of coal power phaseout on rural and urban incomes are not statistically different. The standard errors are clustered at the county level. A two-tailed t-test is performed for each coefficient. Exact p values are in parentheses. ∗p < 0.1, ∗∗p < 0.05, and ∗∗∗p < 0.01.
