Detectable amounts of P(III) are present in all the EDTA-NaOH extracts of the banded iron formation samples and its concentration is lower than P(V). Total extracted amount of P-species (P(III), P(V), and pyrophosphate (PP(V)) are lower than total P in the solid samples.
