The presented scales include the grain size (reported as d50 with error bars encompassing d16–d84), the thickness of the laminar sublayer (calculated in the absence of saltation), impact (hi) and drag-ripple (hl) heights, and height of the focal point, (Hf, Eq. (9)). The latter relates to the thickness of the transport layer and is calculated as described in Methods. Error bars are reported but smaller than most symbols.
