From: An adaptive peptide-binding site in ubiquitin receptor hRpn13 revealed by structural studies

hRpn13 Pru binds to hRpn2 (green), which thereby displaces a bound substrate peptide sequence from hRpn13 as it remains bound to the ubiquitin chain. Release from hRpn13 allows the peptide sequence to engage the ATPase (pink) and serve as an initiation sequence for substrate degradation.
