From: Restructuring of Enterococcus faecalis biofilm architecture in response to antibiotic-induced stress

Biofilm development of E. faecalis parent and ΔepaOX strains after extended cultivation. Experiments were performed as detailed in Materials and Methods. E. faecalis biofilms were cultured on Aclar membranes in CBRs for either 24, 32, or 48 h without antibiotic prior to fixation. The biofilms from each time point were visualized using low-voltage scanning electron microscopy to examine biofilm architecture (scale bars, 5 µm). Representative images are shown from experiments performed in triplicate with similar results
